This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through our website, membership platform, and conferences, as well as how we use that information, and the choices available to you.
Information We Collect
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit our website, we may automatically collect limited technical information through website analytics and server logs, including:
- Browser and device information (including User-Agent data which indicates whether you are using a mobile or desktop device)
- IP address
- Referring and redirect URLs
- Date and time of visits
- Pages visited and general website usage information
If you participate in the CASC Membership Platform, we may also automatically collect
- Account registration information (email, username)
- Membership information (including time of registration)
- Usage information about how you interact with the platform
By creating an account on the CASC Membership Platform, you must consent to the collection of this basic personal data.
We collect this information to provide you the information you request, to understand website performance, improve user experience, maintain security, and analyze traffic patterns.
Automatic data collection may be conducted through the placement of cookies (see below), or through the first-party logging of specific activities such as form submissions or page views.
Information You Voluntarily Provide
You may choose to provide additional personal information when you:
- Make a purchase or donation through our online store
- Subscribe to our newsletter
- Register for an in-person event
- Complete a survey
- Contact us through forms, email, or other communications
- Make an account on the CASC Membership Platform, or interact with that platform
Depending on the activity, this information may include:
- Name
- Email address
- Mailing address
- Demographic information
- Phone number
- Payment and transaction information
- Event registration details
- Sensitive personal information, such as financial information submitted alongside a scholarship application or medical information submitted as part of an event registration (allergies, insurance information, etc)
- Any other information you choose to provide (such as your planned participation in CASC events)
If you participate in the CASC Membership Platform, this information may also include:
- Profile information (photo, bio, interests, geographic region)
- User-generated content (posts, messages, uploads)
- Community engagement data (aggregated information about user patterns)
- Information on event participation
- Linked social media profiles
Cookies
We use cookies and other technologies to collect information about your visits to our Website and Membership Platform.
Cookies are text files placed on your computer by websites to collect standard log information and visitor behavior information. These may include
- First party cookies, set by the website you’re visiting (such as CASC). Only the website that sets the cookie can read it.
- Third-party cookies, set by an external service.
Cookies may persist until you close the browser (session cookies) or until you delete them (persistent cookies)
How does CASC use cookies?
CASC may use cookies to:
- Help deliver the content you request
- Keep you logged in (on the Membership Platform)
- Collect information about your site visit (including visit duration, referring sites, and the searches you make).
- These cookies, called analytics cookies, help us understand how visitors find and use our site so we can make our services more useful.
CASC does not currently place any marketing pixels of its own on its website, nor any analytics or marketing pixels of its own on the CASC Membership Platform. However, we occasionally embed YouTube videos on both services that may carry marketing cookies.
Furthermore, the Platform’s host, Mighty Networks, may use third-party cookies or other tracking technologies for analytics, performance monitoring, ad targeting, or other uses. How can I control cookies?
Users may delete cookies from their browser at any time, or set their browser to refuse all cookie placements. However, some features of the Membership Platform will not function properly if all cookies are blocked (for example, the site may not know to keep you logged in as you switch between pages).
For more information on how to control cookies on a browser level, including how to disable or delete cookies, view information from your browser developer: Chrome, Firefox (block or delete), or Safari.
Users may also choose to limit cookies on a site-specific basis, on either the CASC website or the Membership Platform, by using the Cookie Privacy Banner that appears when the user first logs in.
Website users can adjust their preferences at any time by clicking on the cookie item in the bottom left of their screen.
Users of the Membership Platform may review and change their cookie settings at any time from within the network:
- Navigate to “Personal Settings” (by clicking your profile picture in the top right
- Select “Account”
- Select “Cookie Settings” and select which categories of cookies you will allow
- Necessary cookies cannot be disabled.
Do Not Track and the Global Privacy Control
Some browsers permit users to enable a Do Not Track (DNT) signal. However, as the implementation of the DNT technology has never been standardized, the DNT signal remains ambiguous. As such, the CASC website does not currently respond to DNT browser signals in any way. Regardless of a DNT signal, CASC does not track you across third party websites for advertising purposes.
Users can also enable a Global Privacy Control signal to opt out of marketing cookies across websites.
How We Use Information
We may use collected information to:
- Process purchases and transactions
- Provide requested products, services, or events
- Facilitate account creation and authentication, and manage user accounts
- Send newsletters and updates you have requested
- Respond to inquiries and support requests
- Improve website functionality and user experience
- Analyze website traffic and performance
- Maintain website security and prevent fraud
- Plan and improve hosted events – scheduling, topics, etc
- Facilitate member-to-member interaction
- Provide and moderate community features and content
- Request feedback on our services
- Send you marketing and promotional communications about our own services
- Post testimonials
- Comply with legal obligations
Information Sharing
We do not sell personal information.
We do not directly share personal information with third parties for advertising purposes. However, our website and membership platform occasionally include embedded videos from YouTube; when you visit a page with an embedded video or click to play it, YouTube (owned by Google) may collect information about your interaction, including by placing an advertising targeting cookie and collecting your IP address, device information, and browser activity. CASC has no direct control over the data collected by YouTube. You can learn more about how Google handles this data by reviewing Google’s Privacy & Terms webpage.
We may share information with service providers that help us operate our website or membership platform, process payments, manage communications, or conduct organizational activities (see Third-Party Services and Service Providers, below). Depending on the service provider, the data we share may include sensitive personal information (such as payment information or medical information). We collect this sensitive personal information only under the purposes allowed by law or with your consent. Where possible, we make an effort to increase data security or encryption for these sensitive data. Our service providers are permitted to use information only as necessary to perform services on our behalf.
We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect our rights, users, or the security of our services.
If you participate in the CASC Membership Program, information you choose to include in your member profile, posts, comments, or other community activities may be visible to other members of the community, depending on your privacy settings and the features you use. Please exercise caution when sharing personally-identifiable information, particularly related to your identity, location, or contact information.
Data Retention
We retain personal information as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. In many cases, this means that we retain information as long as a user maintains an account with CASC. Furthermore, information may persist in backup copies for additional time.
If you would like to request your data be deleted from our systems, please contact us at tech@casc.net.
If you have submitted data through a form on our website, you can also request that data be deleted directly through the form provider.
Email Communications
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we may send periodic communications regarding our programs, events, services, or organizational updates. You may unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions included in our emails.
Third-Party Services and Service Providers
Our website may use third-party services for functions such as payment processing, email delivery, analytics, event registration, or website improvement. These services may collect and/or process information according to their own privacy policies.
Our website may also contain links to third-party websites (e.g., social media sites like Facebook and Twitter), third-party plug-ins (e.g., the Facebook “like” button and Twitter “follow” button), and other services. If you choose to use these sites or features, you may disclose your information not just to those third parties, but also to their users and the public more generally depending on how their services function. CASC is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such third-party websites or services.
Third-party services and service providers may include but are not limited to:
- Google Analytics, analytics provider
- YouTube and Vimeo, video hosts
- Typeform and its subsidiary Videoask, survey providers
- Wix, web development provider (including Wix Payments and Wix Forms)
- WordPress, website provider
- Zoho, form provider and event management software
- Mighty Networks, to provide our membership community, member directory, discussion forums, events, messaging features, and related services
- Constant Contact, our newsletter distributor and Consumer Relationship Management software
Information you provide when registering for or participating in our membership community, surveys, or events may be collected, stored, and processed by these providers on our behalf.
Artificial Intelligence
While CASC does not develop any tools or features of its own that are powered by artificial intelligence, machine learning, or similar technologies (collectively, “AI Products”), some of our business partners and service providers offer our users features and tools powered by AI Products. These tools are designed to enhance your experience using our Services, and may serve the following functions:
- Text analysis
- AI search
- AI insights
- Image generation
Service providers that use AI Products include but are not limited to: Mighty Networks (via their AI Cohost) and Typeform. If you interact with these services or features, please consult those services’ privacy policies to learn about the terms of their data collection and use, and to learn about your data rights.
California Residents
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, CASC does not meet the definition of a “business” under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and may not be subject to certain provisions of that Act.
Regardless, we are committed to respecting the privacy of California residents.
California residents who have questions about the personal information we collect or wish to request access, correction, or deletion of information we maintain about them may contact us using the information below. We will consider and respond to requests as appropriate and consistent with applicable law.
To exercise your rights specifically related to your account on the Membership Platform, including to object, restrict, access, correct, or request deletion or a copy of some or all of your Personal Data or Information, log into your account on the Membership Platform or follow the instructions posted in their California Privacy Notice.
Children’s Privacy
Our website is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
CASC does not permit individuals under the age of 13 to open an account on the CASC Membership Platform operated through Mighty Networks.
Minors under the age of 18 or parents of minors have the right under California law to request the deletion of content or information the minor has posted to an online service. Parents may also request to review the personal information that has been collected from their child, or request that CASC cease future online collection of personal information from that child.
If you would like to exercise these rights, either with respect to our website or our Membership Platform, please contact us at tech@casc.net to initiate the process. We may require you to verify your identity or your authority to act on the minor’s behalf before we proceed. Any personal information you provide in your request to verify your identity (or your authority to make a request as an authorized agent) will only be used to fulfill your request.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
